HISTORIA
Allí el deporte tomó tanta importancia en the daily lives of the inhabitants, which was used to resolve conflicts, to win favor with some girl or just indulge in an intense emotion which they called "hopopu."
When European settlers came ashore, led by James Cook, surfing was seen as a non-religious cult that promoted sexual behavior poor (as was practiced semi nude), gambling and non-Catholic practices ( as the ritual to choose the wood for the manufacture of tables.) This is why it was banned the practice of it until many years after the harsh repression that its practitioners regarded as immoral people.
It was to export the sport to the coasts of California and Australia, the surf regained his followers and revived as a sport that has been perfected in recent decades with the emergence of new tables and technical. The names of champions like Tom Carroll, the first Australian champion in 1983 and ASS Tour Kelly Slater (USA) one of the most recent (2008), have given the sport a new style of life for those living sea adrenaline .
